Present: Chairman of the Board of Directors, West Valley Flying Club (WVFC), is the largest non-profit flying club in the country. We have aircraft, facilities, and instructors at both the Palo Alto (PAO) and San Carlos (SQL) airports. From the new student pilot just learning how to fly, to the seasoned pilot looking for a new challenge or just a nice selection of rental aircraft, we have something for everyone.

Present: President, Coyote Hill Consulting LLC, which I founded in February 2002 after many years with Xerox PARC. At Coyote Hill I specialize in IT, systems, and technology consulting for a wide variety of clients of all sizes - including higher education, research, corporate, start-up, and public sectors. My availability can vary greatly depending on other commitments; please contact me if you would like to discuss your needs. (I am also the author of the NS-Lists mailing list system designed specifically for schools.)

At iControl I was responsible for server hosting and server infrastructure for the iControl service, infrastructure and support for the office / engineering / development / QA environment, phone and alarm systems, etc. During my tenure we implemented numerous technical and operational improvements across the IT and Hosting spectrum. Some examples include: Implemented a help desk ticketing system to better manage and track customer requests and internal tasks, new standards for desktops and laptops resulting in greatly improved reliability and supportability, comprehensive storage and backup plan to properly protect the company's work and intellectual property, improved building and network security while making authorized access easier, improved inventory and asset tracking, overhauled the system build and deployment process, designed and implemented High Availability network and systems for new production environments, overhauled monitoring systems and process, worked with customers to create and manage their own production environments for the iControl solution, created and managed a robust and accurate time infrastructure.

2006 - 2007: Vice President Operations, Topix, a Top 10 News site (comScore, April, 2008). While at Topix I was responsible for all aspects of IT infrastructure and support for the office and development environment as well as the public facing collocation facilities. During my tenure I rebuilt the Operations team and then led the redesign and rebirth of most of the infrastructure systems, including: the mail system, public web site reliability, performance, and serviceability, release management, system monitoring, remote access, and firewalls and systems security.

2004 - 2005: Director of Networking Systems, Information Technology Systems and Services (ITSS), at Stanford University. During my time at Stanford I was instrumental in the development and promotion of significant initiatives for Electronic Security and Overhauling Stanford's Network to better meet security, performance, functionality, operational, and cost-effectiveness demands. I was responsible for Stanford's many Internet and Internet2 connections, backbone design and operation, operational network security including firewalls and intrusion detection, basic network services, as well as local network service for specific departments.

2002 - 2003: Interim Director Network Services, San José State University. I played a significant role in improving campus network security and improving the reliability and operational effectiveness of the University's Internet connection, the campus network, and the University Computing and Telecommunications (UCAT) Network Services group.

1984 - 2002: Xerox Corporation, primarily at Xerox PARC where I was a Senior Member of the Research staff, Senior Network Scientist, Chief Technologist of Technical Infrastructure and Systems Development (TISD), and Network Manager. As Senior Network Scientist I worked on many different aspects of Networks, Network Operations, Network Management, Network Monitoring, Communications, Distributed Systems, and Infrastructure. Related to these activities I was involved in numerous projects, including: protocols, interface design, network performance, routing & router design, high-speed networking technologies, firewalls & security, distributed services, interoperability, network management, etc. Details about my experience and background can be found in my history.

In addition to my regular job(s) at PARC I was also a member of the Emergency Response Team (ERT) and I was team leader for the Xerox Emergency Amateur Communications Team (XEACT). In the summer of 2001 I earned my EMT certification and was a key member of the ERT's medical team helping to teach CPR and AED.
