Vice President Information Technology & Hosting Operations
iControl Networks is the leading company in Internet-based home management, including home security, home energy management, remote video access, etc. At iControl I was responsible for server hosting and server infrastructure for the iControl service, infrastructure and support for the office / engineering / development / QA environment, phone and alarm systems, etc. During my tenure we implemented numerous technical and operational improvements across the IT and Hosting spectrum. Some examples include: Implemented a help desk ticketing system to better manage and track customer requests and internal tasks, new standards for desktops and laptops resulting in greatly improved reliability and supportability, comprehensive storage and backup plan to properly protect the company's work and intellectual property, improved building and network security while making authorized access easier, improved inventory and asset tracking, overhauled the system build and deployment process, designed and implemented High Availability network and systems for new production environments, overhauled monitoring systems and process, worked with customers to create and manage their own production environments for the iControl solution, created and managed a robust and accurate time infrastructure.

VP Operations
Topix is a top 20 Internet news and community web site with local news for everywhere. As VP Operations my responsibilities included all IT issues for the production (collocation facilities), development, and office environments. In a year's time I built a team of knowledgeable and capable people to address the many IT challenges within the company. As a team we made significant improvements to the IT infrastructure, including upgrades or replacements of: Internet connectivity, mail system, network, OS / build system, security, wireless, remote access, load balancing, DHCP, DNS, VoIP, OBM, etc., all with an eye towards improving scalability, usability, stability, manageability, disaster recovery, business continuity, and cost effectiveness.

2004 - 2005 Stanford University, Information Technology Services (ITS), Stanford, CA
Director of Networking Systems
My department was responsible for Stanford's many Internet and Internet2 connections, backbone design and operation, campus-wide wireless, operational network security including firewalls and intrusion detection, basic network services such as DNS and time, as well as local network service for specific departments. I was instrumental in the creation, promotion, and planning for both a new electronic security initiative and a campus-wide network redesign.

As Chief Technologist of Technical Infrastructure and Systems Development (TISD) I was responsible for the technical oversight, direction, and planning for all of PARC's Networking, Computing, and Telecom infrastructure and systems. This includes providing the technical leadership and direction for the approximately two dozen TISD staff.

As Network Scientist I conducted research in Networks, Network Operations, Network Management, Network Monitoring, Communications, Distributed Systems, and Infrastructure. I was responsible for network and computing infrastructure planning, evaluation, design and implementation. I served as an expert resource for PARC and Xerox and lead tiger teams to many locations around the country to resolve problems for ciritical customers.

As PARC's Network Manager I had direct operational responsibility for PARC's Network and the Network Support Staff.
